Hearty Salisbury Steak with Creamy Mushroom Gravy
This Hearty Salisbury Steak with Creamy Mushroom Gravy features tender beef patties simmered in a rich onion and mushroom gravy, served over creamy mashed potatoes. The patties are pan-seared until browned, then slowly cooked in a thick, glossy gravy that coats every bite.
The sauce is made directly in the skillet using pan drippings, sautéed onions, mushrooms, and beef broth, creating deep flavor and a smooth texture. This is a classic comfort-food dish prepared with traditional methods and simple ingredients.

Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Patties
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
Mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
Shape into thick oval or round patties.
Step 2: Sear the Patties
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the patties and cook for 4–5 minutes per side, until well browned.
Remove patties from the skillet and set aside.
Step 3: Cook the Onions and Mushrooms
In the same skillet, add butter.
Add sliced onions and mushrooms. Cook for 6–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and lightly browned.
Step 4: Make the Gravy
Sprinkle flour over the onion and mushroom mixture. Stir well and cook for 1 minute.
Gradually pour in beef broth while stirring to prevent lumps.
Add Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 3–4 minutes, until thickened and smooth.
Season with salt and black pepper.
Step 5: Simmer the Steaks
Return the patties to the skillet.
Spoon gravy over them.
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 12–15 minutes, until the patties are fully cooked and the sauce is thick and glossy.
