Blueberry Swirl Cream Cheese Loaf

This Blueberry Swirl Cream Cheese Loaf is a soft, homemade bread filled with fresh blueberries and a smooth cream cheese swirl. The loaf is shaped by hand, baked until golden brown, and finished with a lightly crisp crust and a tender, moist interior.

The cream cheese creates visible swirls throughout the bread, while the blueberries release natural juices that form purple streaks during baking. This loaf is lightly sweet, rich in texture, and ideal for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 large egg

For the Filling

  • 6 oz cream cheese, softened

  • ¼ cup powdered sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup fresh blueberries

For Brushing

  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–7 minutes until foamy.

Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Mix well.

Gradually add flour and knead for 8–10 minutes until soft and elastic.

Form into a ball, place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1½ hours, until doubled in size.

Step 2: Prepare the Cream Cheese Filling

In a bowl, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth and creamy. Set aside.

Step 3: Shape the Loaf

Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle (about 10×14 inches).

Spread cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough.

Scatter blueberries evenly on top.

Roll the dough tightly into a log, then gently twist or coil to create a swirl.

Place into a parchment-lined loaf pan or round baking dish, as shown in the photo.

Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.

Step 4: Bake

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake for 35–40 minutes, until golden brown and fully cooked inside.

If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil.

Step 5: Finish

Remove from oven and brush lightly with melted butter if desired.

Cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
