Baked Pork Chops

These Baked Pork Chops are thick, boneless pork chops that are first lightly seared to develop a golden crust, then baked gently in the oven with butter until tender and juicy. The surface is seasoned simply with salt, black pepper, and a mild spice blend, allowing the natural flavor of the pork to stand out.

The chops are cooked in a shallow layer of melted butter and pan juices, which keeps them moist while baking and creates a lightly browned, savory exterior. This is a classic, home-style dish with a soft interior and a lightly crisped top, made using straightforward ingredients and traditional cooking techniques.

Ingredients

  • 6 boneless pork chops (about 1–1¼ inches thick)

  • 1½ teaspoons salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • 4 tablespoons butter

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Pork Chops

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Remove the pork chops from the refrigerator 20–30 minutes before cooking. Pat them completely dry with paper towels.

Season both sides evenly with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.

Step 2: Sear the Pork Chops

Heat a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil.

Once the oil is hot, add the pork chops in a single layer. Sear for 2–3 minutes per side, just until a light golden crust forms. Do not cook through at this stage.

Step 3: Add Butter

Reduce heat to medium. Add the butter to the skillet and allow it to melt around the pork chops, coating the bottom of the pan.

Step 4: Bake

Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven. Bake uncovered for 18–22 minutes, depending on thickness, until the pork chops are cooked through and tender.

The butter and juices will remain in the pan, keeping the pork moist while baking.

Step 5: Rest

Remove the skillet from the oven and let the pork chops rest in the pan for 5 minutes before serving.
