Tender Steak in Creamy Garlic Sauce

This Tender Steak in Creamy Garlic Sauce is a comforting, restaurant-style dish that’s surprisingly easy to make at home. Perfectly seared steak is paired with a rich, velvety garlic cream sauce that enhances the natural flavor of the beef without overpowering it. This recipe is ideal for a cozy dinner, a special occasion, or whenever you want a satisfying homemade meal with classic flavors.

The sauce is smooth, savory, and infused with garlic, creating a balanced combination that complements the steak beautifully. Serve it with mashed potatoes, rice, or roasted vegetables for a complete and hearty meal.

Ingredients

For the Steak

  • 4 beef steaks (sirloin, ribeye, or strip steak)

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • Salt, to taste

  • Black pepper, to taste

For the Creamy Garlic Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 4–5 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • ½ cup beef broth

  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • Salt, to taste

  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Steak

Remove the steaks from the refrigerator about 20–30 minutes before cooking to allow them to reach room temperature. Pat them dry with paper towels, then season both sides generously with salt and black pepper.

Step 2: Sear the Steak

Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the steaks and sear for about 3–4 minutes per side, depending on thickness and desired doneness. The surface should develop a golden-brown crust.

Remove the steaks from the pan and set them aside on a plate. Cover loosely to keep warm.

Step 3: Make the Garlic Sauce

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add butter. Stir in the minced garlic and sauté for about 30–60 seconds, until fragrant but not browned.

Pour in the beef broth and allow it to simmer for 2–3 minutes, scraping the bottom of the pan to release any browned bits. Add the heavy cream and Dijon mustard (if using), stirring gently to combine.

Let the sauce simmer for 4–6 minutes, until it thickens slightly. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Step 4: Combine and Finish

Return the steaks to the skillet, spooning the creamy garlic sauce over them. Simmer gently for 2–3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.

Serving Suggestions

This dish pairs well with:

  • Mashed potatoes

  • Steamed rice or buttered noodles

  • Roasted vegetables or green beans

  • A simple side salad

Storage Tips

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

  • Reheat gently on the stovetop over low heat to prevent the sauce from separating.

Recipe Notes

  • Avoid overcooking the garlic, as it can turn bitter.

  • Use heavy cream for best texture and consistency.

  • Steak doneness can be adjusted based on personal preference.
