If you’re looking for a quick, comforting, and crowd-pleasing dinner idea, this Texas Toast Sloppy Joe recipe is just what you need. Juicy ground beef simmered in a rich, savory sauce, layered over thick, buttery Texas toast, and topped with melted cheddar cheese — it’s a simple yet satisfying meal the whole family will love. Easy to make in under 30 minutes and perfect for busy weeknights, weekend gatherings, or casual dinners.

Ingredients:
1 lb (500 g) ground beef

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, minced

¾ cup (200 ml) tomato sauce or ketchup

2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp yellow mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tsp paprika (optional)

8 slices Texas toast (thick, buttery toast)

1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (or slices)

Butter or oil for toasting

Instructions – Step by Step:
Cook the beef
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and fully cooked (about 7–8 minutes). Drain excess fat.

Add onion and garlic
Stir in the chopped onion and garlic. Sauté for 3–4 minutes until soft and fragrant.

Make the sloppy joe sauce
Add the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well and let it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes, until the mixture thickens.

Toast the Texas bread
While the meat simmers, lightly butter both sides of each Texas toast slice. Toast them in a skillet or oven until golden and crisp.

Assemble the sandwiches
Spoon a generous amount of the meat mixture onto one slice of Texas toast. Top with cheddar cheese and place another slice of toast on top. For extra melted cheese, bake the assembled sandwiches in the oven for 3–4 minutes.

Serving Tips:
Pair with crispy fries, coleslaw, or a fresh green salad.

Use garlic toast for an extra flavor twist.

Add hot sauce or jalapeños if you like it spicy.
